Newt Gingrich's Ex-Wife on ABC

America should be embarrassed by our media.

Really?  This comes out the day before a Presidential primary?  Suddenly this story has relevance? Gingrich cheated, he has a ridiculous ego, and thinks he deserves the world, including every female in it.  Let's set that aside as a fact and take a look at the media's complicity in using dirty laundry to, at best drum up ratings, at worst trying to shape an election and future of our country.

The more of the interview you watch the more you see the interviewer lead Mrs. Gingrich and get the sound bytes the network needed to get ratings.  She implies here that Newt basically asked her accept that he was a womanizer (despicable yes) and the headline from the whole interview implies that Newt is pro-open marriage.

Let's not make the issue about Newts shortcomings as a husband, or human, in general. The point here is that a major media outlet took advantage of news that was already reported on years ago, already addressed by the candidate, and clearly had the intention of discrediting a public figure.  Some will make the argument that ABC is an entertainment outlet more than a news outlet (bullshit).  Even if we accept that, what CNN did was even more deplorable.  They basically took another outlets dirty reporting and made it the opening question in a debate for the potential next President of the United States.

I used to respect CNN as being somewhat impartial.  After this debate, I'm not sure where to go for unbiased news anymore.

  1. It is accepted and admitted fact Newt had a six-year affair while married to his second wife, who he married after divorcing his first wife while she was sick with cancer. Why does CNN or anyone else have to avoid making that part of the conversation about a man who lectures on morality while seeking the presidency. The man's a blustering jackass and ought to be called out as such.

  2. You're completely missing the point. I fully acknowledge that he has skeletons in his closet that probably eliminate him from being qualified to be President.

The point is the despicable timing of ABC, and worse, the exploitation of CNN in using that as a leading debate question. We have insurmountable debt, multiple wars, high unemployment, unsustainable health care, etc. and they actually lead off one of the last debates asking a Presidential candidate about a private phone call he had with his ex wife years ago in an effort to determine if that one conversation fully defines his character. I can't think of a less responsible use of time.
